How to make a good ad

These content guidelines will help you create a simple yet effective advert using the Linklocal system. Just follow the tips below and don't forget to print out the Quick Start Guide (PDF) so that you can make reference as you create and place your local ad on linklocal.co.uk. The most important thing to remember is keep the advert:

Advertisements created for digital advertising screens should be approached differently to artwork created for magazines and newspaper advertisements. It is important that the content is kept brief, vivid and contrasts properly to be effective.

  • DO ask your audience to take action, such as "Call us today" or "Visit our website"
  • DO split your telephone number into area code and telephone numner
  • DO use high contrasting colours
  • DO highlight key information, for example, your company name using a different coloured text
 
  • DON'T use all caps: While you might think that an all-caps sentence would be easier to see and read, the opposite is true. An all-caps line will visually block together and take longer to read and decipher than a normally capitalised line. It's still OK to use capitalisation for emphasis, of course, but we recommend limiting it to a single word or two
  • DON'T use more than 3 different colours for your text
